After Settling Taxi, A Girl From Bendel Said”OgaYou’ll Not Go,You’ll Pass a Night With Me-Adokiye

Nigerian singer and human rights advocate, Chef Jack Adokiye, has shared a poignant personal experience that highlights the harsh social realities many face during periods of political instability in the country. Speaking in an interview with journalist Edmund Obilo, Adokiye recounted an incident that occurred during one of Nigeria’s tense post-coup environments, a time she described as deeply unsettling for many citizens.

She recalled stepping out of a taxi after paying her fare when a young girl from Bendel approached her unexpectedly. The girl, with startling directness, said, “Oga, you’ll not go, you’ll pass night with me.” The moment, Adokiye explained, left her shocked and deeply reflective.

To her, the encounter was more than a random interaction — it was a painful symbol of how economic hardship and political unrest often force vulnerable individuals, especially young women, into desperate situations.

Adokiye expressed concern over the repeated cycles of coups, political instability, and leadership failures in Nigeria, noting how these conditions continue to create an environment of poverty and hopelessness. She stressed that it is often the youth who suffer the most, with limited opportunities and few avenues to rise above the challenges they face.

She urged Nigerian leaders to take concrete steps toward ending these cycles by investing in good governance and creating a more stable, inclusive society. According to her, the nation must prioritize the well-being of its youth by fostering conditions that allow them to dream, grow, and succeed without having to compromise their dignity.

Her reflections serve as a reminder of the real-life consequences of instability, and a call to action for those in power to build a future where no one is pushed into desperation due to failed leadership.
