The Reason Why Ambode Did Not Do His Two Terms Is Because He Tried To Push For Certain Changes -GRV

In an interview on Arise Television, Rhodes-Vivour highlighted some developmental efforts linked to Ambode, noting that while certain reforms like the “open-door court” were initiated during Babatunde Fashola’s administration, Ambode distinguished himself with projects in urban planning and public art.

According to him, Ambode’s decision to pursue structural reforms clashed with powerful political interests in Lagos, ultimately costing him a return to office. “Ambode tried to bring about changes, but those in control resisted, and that resistance forced him out after one term,” he argued.

Rhodes-Vivour further described Ambode’s experience as a warning for those who govern the state after him, insisting that successors are pressured to conform to a system where public resources and political loyalty are tied to a single influential figure.

Expanding his critique, the former Labour Party flagbearer said the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in Lagos stifles capable leaders by binding them to the dictates of a political godfather. “Even the brightest minds in the APC are limited by the fact that to rise, they must submit to that structure. And that has slowed down Lagos for years,” he added.
