The Department of State Services (DSS) has raised fresh security concerns over an alleged plan by armed bandits to intensify the kidnapping of farmers in parts of Kwara State....WATCH THE VIDEO HERE
The warning, addressed to the Commissioner of Police at the State Command Headquarters in Ilorin, highlights an emerging security threat targeting farming settlements on the outskirts of Lema, Ndeji, and Gbugbu communities, Sahara Reporters reports.Watch Video Here.
The DSS noted that the planned attacks are believed to be retaliatory, following ongoing military operations that have reportedly disrupted bandit activities and other criminal enterprises in the region.
The statement read, “Intelligence indicate plans by bandits led by AUTA-ILORIN and Siddi DAN-KANO, to intensify kidnapping of farmers at farm settlements at the outskirt of Lema, Ndeji and Gbugbu Communities, Edu Local Government Area (LGA). This development would cause the farmers to abdicate activities in the communities
“The planned disruption of farming activities is retaliation to the ongoing Military operations frustrating banditry and other criminal vices.
“In view, it is suggested that security operation be extended to vulnerable communities to forestall any untoward development and enhance public safety.”
“Respectfully forwarded for your attention and necessary action, please,” he added.
Insecurity in Kwara State has escalated sharply in 2026, with violent clashes, massacres, and targeted attacks leaving dozens dead and communities traumatised.
