ADC Gave Him Lifeline, Peter Obi Needed ADC, ADC Did Not Need Him, We Were Already Moving On—Okonkwo

African Democratic Congress (ADC) chieftain Kenneth Okonkwo has claimed that the ADC played a major role in reviving the political relevance of former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi....WATCH THE VIDEO HERE

Speaking during an interview on Arise Television on Wednesday, May 6, 2026, Okonkwo argued that Obi’s political influence had significantly weakened before he joined the ADC at the end of 2025.

According to him, Obi was already facing political setbacks in his home state of Anambra before aligning with the party. Okonkwo claimed that Obi struggled to maintain political dominance even in elections involving candidates he personally supported.

“Recall that before he came to ADC on December 31st, his political career was already dead. He was losing his polling unit in his own state by the gubernatorial candidate that he chose by himself,” Okonkwo stated during the interview.

He also referred to a local legislative election involving the Labour Party, alleging that the result reflected growing dissatisfaction with Obi’s leadership style among voters in Anambra State.

According to Okonkwo, the Labour Party fielded the widow of a deceased House of Assembly member in an attempt to gain public sympathy during the election, but the candidate still failed to secure victory.

“Recall that even when one member of the House of Assembly of Labour Party died, they fielded his widow to know whether they can get the sympathy of the people. But because of the rejection of Anambra people to Peter Obi’s leadership style, they still voted against the innocent widow,” he said.

The ADC chieftain maintained that these political developments demonstrated a decline in Obi’s influence before his decision to join the ADC.

He further claimed that Obi did not officially align with the ADC through Anambra State but instead entered the party structure through Enugu State.

“So recall that before he entered ADC, his political career was already dead, so dead that he could not even enter ADC from his own state, Anambra state,” Okonkwo added.

“He entered ADC from Enugu state, my own state, where he believed that the toxic on the toxin will not overwhelm him,” he continued.

Okonkwo concluded by insisting that the ADC offered Obi renewed political visibility and support at a time when his influence was allegedly declining.

“So ADC actually gave him a lifeline. Peter Obi needed ADC. ADC did not need him. Because we were already moving on without him,” he stated.…READ / MORE…
