“Haba Dino, leave APC out of your beef” Onanuga says as Dino Melaye attacks Obi for defecting to NDC

A fresh wave of political confrontation has broken out among Nigeria’s opposition figures, with sharp criticisms directed at Peter Obi over his recent political moves and perceived absence from internal party struggles....WATCH THE VIDEO HERE

The latest remarks were led by Dino Melaye, who took to X (formerly Twitter) to question Obi’s leadership capacity and commitment to navigating complex political challenges. In a series of pointed comments, Melaye suggested that Obi’s handling of party dynamics raises concerns about his readiness to govern a country as complex as Nigeria.

According to Melaye, the issues confronting Nigeria are far more demanding than the internal disputes within opposition coalitions such as the African Democratic Congress (ADC). He argued that Obi’s decision to step away from contentious political situations reflects an unwillingness to confront difficult realities, a trait he believes is essential for national leadership.

Using metaphorical language, the former lawmaker remarked that Obi appears uncomfortable in “difficult environments,” implying that he may struggle under pressure. Melaye further alleged that Obi has consistently avoided competitive internal party contests, claiming that throughout his political career, he has often benefited from direct nominations rather than engaging in primary elections.

He referenced Obi’s emergence as governor under the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), his selection as a vice-presidential candidate alongside Atiku Abubakar, and his presidential candidacy under the Labour Party in 2023, suggesting that these opportunities came without rigorous intra-party competition.

Melaye also alleged that Obi’s recent political realignment may be aimed at securing another “uncontested” ticket, this time under a platform he identified as the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC). He controversially suggested that the party could have indirect links to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), a claim that quickly drew a response from government officials.

Reacting to the allegation, presidential spokesperson Bayo Onanuga distanced the APC from any association with the NDC and criticized Melaye for drawing such a connection. In his response, Onanuga dismissed the claim as unfounded and urged Melaye to avoid dragging the ruling party into what he described as a personal political dispute.

Onanuga also took a swipe at Obi, suggesting that the former governor’s political trajectory reflects a pattern of moving between platforms in search of favorable opportunities. He rejected the notion that the APC had any involvement in Obi’s alleged plans or affiliations, emphasizing that the ruling party should not be linked to opposition dynamics.…READ / MORE…
