Speaking during an interview on Channels Television, the senator argued that President Tinubu did not marginalise the South-East even though the region largely failed to support him at the polls. Nwaebonyi said the president still entrusted the zone with strategic roles in his administration.
According to the lawmaker, the South-East did not overwhelmingly support either the Peoples Democratic Party or Tinubu during the presidential election, yet the president chose to prioritise inclusion over political retaliation.
“You will agree with me that in 2023, the people of Southeast didn’t vote for PDP and by implication, didn’t vote as we suppose for president Bola Ahmed Tinubu. But president Bola Ahmed Tinubu being a democrat, nationalist still gave the people of Southeast juicy positions in his administration,” Nwaebonyi said.
The senator’s comments come amid continuing political conversations about equity, representation and federal appointments under the current administration.
