During a recent televised interview, the African Democratic Congress chieftain reflected on the political journey of some prominent figures and the role the ADC has played in providing opportunities for politicians seeking renewed influence. According to him, some politicians regain public visibility only after aligning with new political platforms capable of offering organisational support and direction.
Okonkwo stated that before joining the ADC, one particular politician’s career had already lost momentum, adding that the party provided a fresh opportunity for political relevance. He further remarked that the ADC has continued to strengthen its position and move forward regardless of individual exits or political realignments.
The former spokesperson for Peter Obi emphasized that political relevance cannot depend solely on personal popularity or media attention. Instead, he argued that durable success in politics is built on the strength, organisation, and credibility of the political platform backing a candidate.
According to Okonkwo, political parties should be viewed as institutions that develop leaders and sustain democratic participation rather than vehicles designed only to advance personal ambition. He maintained that collective strength and internal structures are more important than individual influence in maintaining competitiveness at the national level.
He concluded by reaffirming the ADC’s commitment to expanding its structures, strengthening internal unity, and increasing its influence ahead of future elections, despite ongoing shifts within Nigeria’s political landscape.
