Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe has decried the poor state of electricity infrastructure in Nigeria, revealing that his own community lacks a basic transformer despite repeated efforts to secure one through official channels....WATCH THE VIDEO HERE
The Abia South lawmaker made this known during an interview on TV Platinum, where he spoke candidly about the ongoing challenges in the country’s power sector. His remarks have drawn attention to the disconnect between policy oversight and realities on the ground, particularly in rural and semi-urban communities.
Highlighting his personal experience, Abaribe lamented the bureaucratic hurdles he encountered while trying to address the issue in his locality. “There is no transformer in my place. I have written several letters and they told me they cannot get so I had to go to buy,” he said.
The senator’s statement underscores the persistent infrastructural gaps in Nigeria’s electricity distribution system, where communities often have to resort to self-help to secure essential equipment. His experience also raises concerns about inefficiencies within relevant agencies responsible for providing such infrastructure.
Nigeria’s power sector has long been plagued by inadequate generation, transmission, and distribution capacity, leaving millions without reliable electricity. In many cases, residents contribute funds to purchase transformers, poles, and cables to connect their communities to the grid.
